State playoff formula

 Football

Santiam Christian competes at the 3A level high school level which consists of 37 teams.

These 37 teams are divided into 5 different special districts of which SC is in special district 2, which has 8 teams.

The state playoff consists of 16 of these 37 teams.

Within our special district of 8 teams, the top 3 will move on to the state playoffs.

The teams are ranked by the OSAA by a purely mathematical power system. There are no voting or coach's opinions involved and the scores are not included. The only reason for the ranking system is to place the teams into a 16-team bracket. In the first round, 8 teams get home games, and in general, it is the top 8 ranked teams. It gets a little more complicated on the first-round matchups, but not much. If a team wins they move on, and if they lose they are out of the playoffs.

The bracket for football will come out either late Saturday 10/29 or early Sunday 10/30.

Playoff games are on Friday or Saturday depending on travel time.

Dates of games:

First round - 11/4 or 11/5

Second round - 11/11 or 11/12

Semi-finals - 11/18 or 11/19

Final - 11/26

Volleyball

Santiam Christian competes at the 3A level which consists of 45 teams.

These 45 teams are divided into 6 different districts of which SC is in the PacWest district, which has 7 teams.

The state playoff consists of 20 of these 45 teams.

Within our special district of 7 teams, the top 3 will move on to the state playoffs. Based on a district tournament. The tournament is over two days on 10/21 and 10/22. and has the following format.

District Playoff:

#5 vs #4 Winner vs loser of ( #3 vs #2) Winner moves on to state

#3 vs #2 Winner vs #1 seed - both teams advance, but the winner is now the #1 seed and

gets a home state playoff game

State Playoff:

The teams are then ranked by the OSAA by a purely mathematical power system. Again there are no voting or coach's opinions involved, and the scores are not included. The only reason for the ranking system is to place the teams into a 20-team bracket. In the first round, 8 teams will play and the 4 winners advance. It gets a little more complicated on the matchups, and this will be the first time it has been done this way. If a team wins they move on, and if they lose they are out of the playoffs.

The playoff bracket should be announced late Saturday 10/22 or early Sunday 10/23.

Dates of games:

First round - 10/26

Second round - 10/29

Final (8-team tournament) - 11/4 and 11/5 at Springfield high school

Girls and boys soccer

Santiam Christian boys soccer competes at the 3A/2A/1A level which consists of 68 teams.

These 68 teams are divided into 7 different districts of which SC is in Special District 3, which has 10 teams. District 7 has chosen not to advance to the state playoffs.

Santiam Christian girls soccer competes at the 3A/2A/1A level which consists of 40 teams.

These 40 teams are divided into 5 different districts of which SC is in Special District 3, which has 8 teams.

The state playoff consists of 20 teams.

Within our special districts, the top 3 teams will move on to the state playoffs automatically and the winner of a district playoff between #5 and #4 will also advance. That playoff will be on either 10/24 or 10/25.

The playoff bracket should be announced late 10/25 or early 10/26.

Dates of games:

First round - 10/29

Second round - 11/1 or 11/2

Quarterfinals - 11/4 or 11/5

Semi-finals - 11/8

Final - 11/12

Boys cross country

Santiam Christian boys high school cross country competes at the 3A level which consists of 43 teams.

These 43 teams are divided into 4 different districts of which SC is in Special District 2, which has 9 teams.

Two teams automatically qualify for the OSAA Cross Country State Championships from each district. These teams are based on the special district meet on 10/27.

At-Large Qualifiers - Four additional teams will qualify for the OSAA Cross Country State Championships. These teams will be determined by the selection committee after the district meets have concluded.

Individual Automatic Qualifiers - Any individual in the top seven across the line at the district meet, not a member of a qualifying team, will qualify as an individual for the state championships. If all of the top seven individuals are members of qualifying teams, no additional individuals will be added.

The state meet will be held on 11/5 at Lane Community College.

Girls cross country

Santiam Christian high school girls cross country compete at the 3A/2A/1A level.

These teams are divided into 4 different districts of which SC is in Special District 2. Special district 2 has 30 teams listed. However, I would estimate only about 10 have a full team.

Three teams automatically qualify for the OSAA Cross Country State Championships from each district. These teams are based on the special district meet on 10/27.
